MR. WILKINSON’S PROPOSALS
CRITICISM IN THE HOUSE. (By Wire—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. ''The recent speeches of Mr. C. A. Wilkinson (Egmont), in which he pleaded that the best brains of the House should get together in order to solve the present difficulties of the Dominion, drew a shot from Mr. H. S. S. Kyle during his Address-in-Reply speech to-day. “At the same time the member for Egmont,” he said, “is moving to disturb the whole economic position by trying to divide the house on the question of wheat duties. He knows that North Island members of the House are in a majoiity, and he is endeavouring to .aise the interIsland issue by driving in the wedge.” A Labour member: He is trying to get cheaper bread for the people. Mr. Kyle: I suggest that before the member for Egmont endeavours to disturb the whole economic position he should assist in some constructive criticism that would place the country in a sound position.
