CASUAL RAILWAY WORKERS
PROTEST AGAINST DISMISSAL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, Last Night. A fully representative meeting of railwaymen last night emphatically protested against the dismissal of casuals in face of the fact that the first division members already were in receipt of large salaries and had them recently increased. The meeting asked the Minister of Railways to withhold any further dismissals until such time as the commission had furnished its report. “Further ,we consider we are fully entitled to a second division representative on the proposed commission,” the meeting resolved. This was in line with a similar request put forward by ithe Frankton branch recently.
