THE WENDY HUT

OUR GRAND NEW PAINTING COMPETITION. TINKITES ARE ASKED TO PAINT OR CRAYON THE PRETTY PICTURE ON THIS PAGE, AND TO SEND THE FINISHED DRAWINGS TO WENDY. A USEFUL PRIZES ARE AWAITING THOSE CHILDREN WHO SEND IN THE VERY BESTYPRIZES. Isn’t it a charming little picture, children? A jolly party of boys and girls playing at CHARADES in a pleasant meadow. You’ll be able to do wonderful things with your paints and crayons, won’t you? You’ll give the girls pretty dresses, make the small “actor” look pictriresque, tint the suit of the boy in the “audience,” and give the dolly a gay frock, besides colouring the scenery. .... I can-just imagine how beautifuily you will paint our Competition Picture. And when you have painted it—having very carefully thought out a lovely colour scheme—l want you to send it to me, so that I may decide which of the hundreds of entries I hope to receive are the very best of all, and worthy of our SPLENDID PRIZES. Please remember the things I look for in judging a Painting Competition: Carefully thought-out colour-schemes; delicate tints or more definite tones according to the part of the picture being painted; clear, clean work; and, of course, neatness. ■ The rules which you must observe in order to qualify are:— — 1.. Your entry must be in by the 15th July, addressed to Wendy, c/o The Editor, Daily News, New Plymouth. 2. Your name, full address, and age must be CLEARLY stated on your entry. 3. Your entry must be signed by a grown-up relative or a teacher, who thus guarantees the work to be YOUR VERY OWN, QUITE UNAIDED BY ANYONE. This is a very important rule. And now get out your paint-boxes or your crayons. Study the little picture, decide on the colours you will use for it—and set to work! I have Great Expectations of a wonderful array of beautiful pictures arriving at the Hut, so please don’t disappoint me. Love to you —and good luck. WENDY.
