The hostess wore a frock of figured crepe de chine with a black georgette coatee. fl # a a The bridge circle at the Hawera Women’s Club gave an enjoyable progressive bridge evening on Thursday, when the players present were Mrs. Bayley, Airs. Richardson, Miss Aleta Barr, Aliss McDonald, Mrs. Aleyrick, Mrs. Wake and Mrs. Jack Bayley. - fl fl fl A The engagement has recently been announced of Aliss Evadne Goodson Royle, one time of Hawera, and Air. Tleadon Cuthbert, Alelbourne, son of Air. H. Cuthbert, Ballarat, and grandson of the late Sir Henry Cuthbert. Miss Evadne Royle will be remembered more recently through her visits to Taranaki with Air. Mrs. W. 0. Williams was hostess at an .afternoon party for Miss Ruth Hawken on Friday last, the guest of honour wearing a smart navy ensemble with hat to tone. The flowers in the drawingroom were a delight. There were large bowls of hydrangeas, iris, antirrhinums and violets. After tea Miss Hawken received a number of “pink” gifts. Among those present were Miss Ruth Hawken, Mrs. Channing Tonks, Mrs. Treweek, Mrs. Bruce Joll, Mrs. A. M. Young, Mrs. Bayley, Mrs. Jack Bayley, Mrs. Dew Caplen, Mrs. Arthur Coleman, Miss Edna Hawken, Miss Ruth Pease, Miss Kitty Coleman, Miss Gertrude Corry, Miss Evelyn Buist and Miss Sylvia Lygaght. Bayley, at her home on Tuesday, when those present wore Miss Ruth Hawken, Mrs. Kemp, Mrs. R. G. B. Sinclair, Mrs. C. G. Trotter, Mrs. A. M. Young, Misses Dora'-and Mary.-Hawken, . Misses • Molly and Anne Page, Misses • Myra and Joyce Powdrell, Miss Alison’ Good, Miss Katie Robertson, Miss Richardson, Miss Evelyn Buist and Miss Ruth Pease. The honours for the evening’s bridge were won by Miss Molly Page.
