VISION OF DEVELOPMENT
AIR-LINKED DOMINIONS
SEAPLANES FOR NEW ZEALAND.
FLIGHT-LIEUTENANT’S IDEAS.
(By Wire —Special to News.) Auckland, Last Night.
The extensive use in New Zealand of flying boats instead of aeroplanes is suggested by Flight-Lieutenant W. VazieSimons, a former member of the Royal Air Force, who arrived by the Rangitane from Southampton to take up flying in the Dominion.
Before leaving London Flight-Lieuten-ant Vazie-Simons called upon the High Commissioner, Sir Thomas Wilford, who told him he was anxious to see the establishment in New Zealand of a great central aerodrome to serve the whole of the North Island. Sir Thomas mentioned Wanganui as the' most likely place. The High Commissioner, said the Fliglit-Lieutenant, was strongly of opinion that in three years New Zealand and Australia would be joined by an air service route embracing Lord Howe Island.
Flight-Lieutenant Vazie-Simons, who has had 14 years’ flying experience, principally in flying boats and seaplanes, said the seaplane was the type of machine best suited to a service between New Zealand and Australia. There were also extensive opportunities for seaplanes in the coastal districts of New Zealand.
