RUGBY GAME IN TARANAKI

..MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS. REFEREES’ APPOINTMENT. At a meeting of the management committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union at Stratford on Wednesday night the northern division of the Referees’ Association asked why Mr. F. J. Jfiggleton could not be appointed to referee any matches where the Stratford club played and why Mr. Eggleton’s name had not been included amongst those forwarded for representative matches. Mr. Masters said no representations of any kind had ever been made to him by any member of the Stratford club regarding Mr. Eggleton. The only reason why Mr. Eggleton was not appointed to a representative match was because the appointment board considered there were five referees better qualified for the position, he added. It was agreed to reply to the Referees’ Association accordingly. At the same time members expressed confidence in Mr. Eggleton as a referee, eon--sidering it merely unfortunate that the board deemed others more fitted for the control of representative matches. On the other question the Association is to be informed that there has been no suggestion of oversight or victimisation.

The Whangarnomona sub-union wrote relative to its by-laws concerning the cup competitipp and asked for rulings as to 'whether Aitken was eligible to

play for Strathmore and W-est for Tahora. —Left to the chairman and secretary. J. MacNamara reported having ordered Ashfond (Okaiawa) and Liehwark (Kaponga) off the ground during. the match on May 10. •Explanations were received from both clubs.
