STRUCK THE REFEREE
PLAYER OUT FOR FIVE YEARS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dargaville, June 11. W. E. Smith, a Ruawai player in the Tango wahine-Ruawai senior mdteh at Tangowahine on Saturday, was ordered off a few minutes before the final whistle for “cheeking” the referee, Mr. M. C. Astley. When the referee approached the dressing shed after the match, Smith struck him in. the .face. ’ This breach was discussed at . the Northern Wairoa Rugby Union’s meeting last evening. Smith was suspended from playing football for five seasons and barred from entering any ground under the Northern Wairoa Rugby Union’s jurisdiction during that period.
