EDUCATION IN NEW ZEALAND
VIEWPOINT OF THE MINISTER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Juno 11. The Council of Education met to-day and after the meeting had been opened by Mr. H. Atmoro the council dealt with committee work. It assembles again tomorrow morning. A defence of the policy of personally inspecting schools of the Dominion was made by Mr. Atmore. It was only by making a tour and gaining a thorough knowledge of the ■ conditions ovei' the whole of the country that the Minister could make an intelligent allocation of the education vote. He was determined to see every school in the Dominion in order to ascertain the urgency of the requirements. No one else could
give him this information. He also emphasised that the education of children was of supreme importance to the primary industries, of the Dominion. When the development of land lagged behind the increase of population the problem of unemployment arose. It was to the farmers that the country looked for a national income.
