The expenditure by Australia’s various governing bodies during last financial year was more than half the value of all the production during that period.

The Federal Government spent £Bl,OOO, 000 and the State Governments £121,000, 000, and 1058 local governing bodies spent £36,500,00'0. The total value of Australian production for the same period was £455,000,000.

During 1928-29 the taxation by the Australian Governments combined amounted to £88,750,000, compared with £45,000,000 ten years ago. In other words, taxation per head last year by the Commonwealth and States amounted to £l4 per head of population.
