Harley was ordered to pay the Hawera Hospital Board £lB 13s forthwith, in default 18 days’ imprisonment. LICENSING COMMITTEE. RENEWAL OF LICENSES. "On tlie whole the police and Health Department reports are satisfactory,” commented the chairman, Mr. J. 11. Salmon, S.M., at the annual meeting of the Patea Licensing Committee yesterday. Also present at the sitting were Messrs J. B. Murdoch, C. J. Hawken, E. Dixon, J. Gray and E. A. Pacey. All applications for renewals of licenses were granted, as were the following transfers: — • ’ Axel Frederick Anderson to Zarify Assid Gorban, wine license. A reading of Barrie’s one-act comedy “The Twelve-pound Look” should he an attractive feature of the Barrie evening to be given at the Oddfellows’ Hall under the auspices of the- Manaia playreading group of the W.E.A. The leading parts will be taken by Miss M. McLeod as Kate, Miss Ada Dudley as Mrs. (soon to bo Lady) Sims, and Mr. Frank Dick as Harry Sims. A lecture on “What is Success ” — .Barrie’s Plays as Parables” will be the other main item of the evening’s programme. The lecturer will be Mr. J. A. Brailsford, 8.A., tutor-organiser of the W.E.A.
