EPIC CONTEST EXPECTED
TRIAL FOR TOMMY DONOVAN. It is doubtful if boxing enthusiasts in Taranaki realise what a super-contest the Hawera Boxing Association is staging on Friday night at the Hawera Opera House. Billy Grime is to light Tommy Donovan, the latter the most sensational boxer and the greatest boxoffice attraction New Zealand had had in years, and the former —just Billy Grime. Not so many moons ago Grime was hailed as the second Griffo, a ring freak, greatest fighting man of his age. He is a master of unorthodox magic, the greatest fighting man of his age. He is still Billy Grime, still unorthodox, still a great fighting man, and he still has speed, resource and a wonderful power of punch. When the Australian decides to retire, and it is to be hoped that is & long way off, his name will go down in the annals of Fistiana as one of the best boxers the Commonwealth has produced. He is justifiably proud of the fact that he has never yet claimed a foifeit, and the “little fellow” has fought middleweights with the same equanimity as he has battled against welters, lightweights and men in his own class featherweights.
