LARGE DAIRY OUTPUT

DOMINION' GRADING FIGURES. More than 93,600 tons of butter and 84,300 tons of cheese, a total of nearly 17-8,000 tons of dairy produce, were graded in New Zealand for the ten months of the 1929-30 season to Alay 31. Butter showed an increase of 17.57 per cent, and cheese an increase of 0.31 per cent, compared with the corresponding period of 1928-29. The figures of the" dairy division of the Department of Agriculture show that the salted butter graded for May, 1930, was 3448 tons, and the unsalted 55 tons, a total of 3503 tons, compared with 3415 tons salted and two tons unsalted, a tota of 3417 tons, for Alay, 1929. This is an increase of 2.51 percent. For the ten months ended Alay, 1930, the respective quantities were: Salted, 92,020 tons; unsalted, 1591 tons. There was a total of 93,611 tons, compared with 77,452 tons and 2165 tons, a total of 79,617 tons, for the corresponding period of the preceding season. This is an increase of 17.57 per cent. The cheese grade for Alay, 1930, comprised:—White, 3222 tons; coloured, 2052 tons. This is a total of 5274 tons, compared, with 3400 tons of white and ,1789 tons of coloured, a total of 5189 tons, for Alay, 1'929, an increase of 1.63 per Cent; The quantities for the ten months ended Alay, 1936, were; —White, 56,094 tons; coloured, 28,239 tons. This Is a total of 84,333 -tons, compared with 57,540 tons of white and &1L524 tons

of coloured, a total of 84,064 tons, for the corresponding period of the preceding season, an increase of 0.31 per cent. Converting these figures into butterfat equivalent, there is an increase of 9.77 per cent, in butter-fat production for ths ten months, as compared with the corresponding period of the 192829 season. Stocks held in the various grading ports as at May 31, 1930, were: Butter, 11,437 tons; cheese, 13,381 tons. These compare with 6385 tons of butter and 8842 tons of cheese held on May 31, 1929.
