RAILWAYS POSITION
COMMISSION ANNOUNCED WIDENED SCOPE OF INQUIRY. MR. R. MASTERS TO BE CHAIRMAN, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Woodville, Last Night. The Hon. E. A. Ransom delivered hi 3 first address since -taking the position of Minister of Lands in Woodville tonight before a' large gathering. The Minister dealt at length with the railways and stated that future working as well as future construction was going to bo investigated. The Prime Minister announced to-day the personnel of the Royal Commission to investigate all branches of the Railway Department’s activities and advise where economies can be effected. The Governor-General has approved of the following members of the commission;: Messrs. J. D. Hall (Christchurch), R. W. McVilly, J. Marchbanks (Welling-, ton), R. Masters (Stratford) and G. W, Reid (Dunedin). Mr. Masters is to bo chairman. It is proposed that the commission will commence its sittings at an early date.
