DRUNKEN DRIVER FINED
LICENSE CANCELLED TILL 1933. MAGISTRATE ALLEGES PERJURY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, June 9. Jerry Hokopaura, a Maori, was fined £25 for being in a state of intoxication when in charge of a motor-car which was involved in an accident at Maxwell on April 15, £l9 for negligent driving, and £5 for offensive language. The magistrate, Mr. Salmon, also cancelled his license, which was not to be renewed for three years. He said Hokopaura’s statement that he had no liquor that day, only medicine for his heart, was gross perjury. He instructed the police to make further investigations regarding liquor. that day and to proceed further if necessary.
