MUSSOLINI’S FIERY SPEECH
EFFECT ON FRANCE’S POLICY. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, Jun© 6. Th© Paris correspondent of The Times says that, though anxious to pursue negotiations with Italy on naval and other questions as early as .possible, the French Government considers there is no hope of such negotiations being carried out in the atmosphere created by Signor Mussolini’s speech at Florence on May 18. The French Government has therefore decided to refrain from negotiations, and will'not in the meantime reply to Signor Grandi’s suggestion for a mutual naval holiday. „ ~ .
"There are people who think they can isolate Italy, and who would not be. averse to starting war against the Italian people, even through the territory of a third Power,” said Signor Mussolini in the speech referred to. “We await them at the crossing. (Cheers). Though words are beautiful things, ma-chine-guns, ships, and aeroplanes are still more beautiful. Right is a vain word unless accompanied by might.”
