CULT-'OF THE JERSEY. I < TYPE AND PRODUCTION. Every year has seen a steady increase ip the number of breeders and registrations until New Zealand has justly earned the name of the southern homo of the Jersey. The progress made is in no small way attributable to the progressive spirit adopted by Jersey breeders in general, both in the judicious culling and mating of their stock and in their evident desire to cater for the demands of the dairy farming community. The aim of each and every one of them, Sf course, has been to secure that most esirable combination of qualities, type, together with production. That many Taranaki breeders have been successful in attaining this much sought-after combination is evidenced by the keen demand for their stock experienced at the series of. sales now being conducted throughout the province. Continuing to-day and throughout the following week, further opportunities will be presented to prospective purchasers to secure blood from proven strains. To-day the large offering of 125 head will be submitted at the annual female sale conducted under the auspices of the Stratford .Jersey Club, while Monday will be devoted to the similar sale or the Hawera Jersey Club, when a total of 57 choice animals will be offered. Following the annual meeting of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association at Hawera on Tuesday the select “Raithwaite” stud of Mr. H. H. Buxton, Auroa, will be dispersed on the farm. The result of 15 years' careful breeding on sound lines the Raithwaite stud represents a striking example of the combination of type and production. Headed for many years by the fashionably bred bull Twylish Hope (11 C.O.R daughters) the Raithwaite herd contains many well known show winners, besides holding the following certificates of records: Raithwaite Belle, 704.091 b fat at four years; Raithwaite Belle, 600.131 b fat at two years; Twylish Thistledown, 539.951 b fat at two years; Raithwaite Favourite Belle, 401.991 b fat at two years; Raithwaite Briar’s Girl, 405.591 b fat at two years; Raithwaite Gold Dust, 417.561 b fat at two years; Best of All, 582.151 b fat at four years; Caloola Thistle, 435.481 b fat at six years; Raithwaite Maid Molly, 372.881 b fat at two years; Pick of the Bunch, 5241 b fat at eight years. These records speak for them selves and endorse Mr. Buxton’s statement that his stock have always given satisfaction wherever they have been taken. The dispersal sale will be conducted under cover and luncheon will be provided. Seats in conveyances to any of the sales mentioned may be'reserved with, and catalogues obtained from, the auetioners in conjunction, the Farmers’ Coopei zt've Organisation . Society, N.Z., Ltd.i and Wow-inn King, Ltd.
