WEDDINGS

EBBETT—SOLE. The wedding was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, New Plymouth, on June 2, of Bernice Ema, ■ only daughter of Mrs. E. J. Sole, “Aotea,” Avenue Road, New Plymouth, and Nelson Oswald (Jack) Ebbett, New Plymouth and late of Masterton. Canon E. H. Strong performed the ceremony, with Mr. R. Neville Renaud at the organ. The bride, who entered the church with her brother, Mr. Ivor 'K. Solo, wore a frock of ivory moire ring velvet, with two-tiered skirt dipping at back, and long tight bodice with long sleeves. The veil, which formed a long train, was held in place by a satin cap, studded with silver, with orange blossoms forming a halo. She carried a sheaf of cherry hot-house carnations, tied with cherry streamers. The bridesmaids were Miss Dorothy Abbott (chief l'and Miss Norma Eva, who were both attired alike? in Jroeks of cherry ring velvet,-.with gold shoes and stockings, and gold tissue hats re? lie.ved in front with gold leaves. They carried sheaves of golden chrysanthemums. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. Syd. Hutchinson, Wellington as groomsman, and' Mr. Douglas Bates, Masterton as best man.

.'After. the ceremony a reception was held at the Devon rooms, a, large number of guests being present. Mrs. Sole, mother of the bride,? wore an American model frock of black flat silk, relieved with white, and hat to match. She carried a bouquet of French marigolds toning from gold to red. Mrs. Ebbett, Wellington, . mother of the bridegroom, wore a black ensemble with black hat and carried a posy of violets. Mrs. Duncan, Auckland (sister of the bridegroom), also wore black. Mr. and Mrs. Ebbett left later for Wellington, the bride travelling in a honey-beige silk charmclaine model with ' satin beaute. finishings, with honey-beige satin court shoes and tweed coat with' moufflon collar and cuffs.

SQUIRE—CORBETT.

At St. Paul’s Church, Okato, on May 27, Alma Ada, edest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. -William Corbett, was married to William Henry Jackson, only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Squire, Palmerston North. The Rev. J. Adams, assisted by the Rev. H. Sinclair, performed the ceremony. The church was decorated with pink and white flowers, a large bell of flowers being suspended before the altar. Miss Marion Squire was organist.' The bride, who was given away by her father, was gowned in ivory crepe de chine - ith silver lace, while a coronet to match held the veil. She was attended by Miss Raeburne Jones and Miss Kathleen Squire, New Plymouth, and Miss Win Bowyer, Otorohanga,, who were gowned in pink, green and apricot georgette respectively, and carried bouquets to match. Each wore a string' of pearls the gift of the bridegroom. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr.' F. Harvey, and that of groomsmen by Messrs. E. and E. B. ■ Corbett. A reception was. held in the Hemptou Hall, where over 700 guests were . present. Later Mr. and Mrs. Squire left on a motor tour of the north Island.

COUPE—GILBERT. Knox Ch.urch, Gonville, Wanganui, on Tuesday, June 3, was the scene of the wedding of Dorothy Emily, third daughter- of Mrs. DI. Gilberd, of Castlecliff, Wanganui, to Bertram S. Coupe, third son of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Coupe, of Te Kiri, Taranaki. The bride, who entered the church with’ her brother, Mr. E. Gilberd, wore a frock of white georgette over silk, made with long skirt, and deeply tucked bodice. The embroidered veil, which formed a train, was held to the head with a string of pearls finished with clusters of orange blossom over each ear, and she carried a shower bouquet. The maid of honour;, Miss Margaret Lloyd, wore a gown of palest pink georgette with insets of silver lace, and a felt hat to tone with deeper shade of pink, and a diamante buckle. Her bouquet was of pale pink blossoms. The Rev. G. S. King, of Wanganui East, officiated, and Mr. Erie Sha'rland was best man. After tho ceremony a reception was held at the Masonic Hall by Mrs. Gilberd. She wore a navy crepe marocain frock with pale biscuit vastee, and navy cloth coat and hat to match, and carried a bouquet of shaded. autumn flowers. A beautifully iced wedding cake was at the head of the table, above which hung a floral wedding boll. When Mr. and Mrs. Coupe left for’ their honeymoon the latter was wearing a' woollen suit of royal blue with, touches of grey, a felt hat to tone, and a . fox fur, the gift of the bridegroom.

- - GRIFFITHS—McLEAN. The wedding of Miss. A. Mary McLean, daughter of Mrs. A. McLean, Opunake, to Mr. Rhys C. Griffiths, only son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Griffiths, Hastings, took place at Opunake recently. The Rev. R. Catherwood, Turakina, assisted by the Rev. Roberts, Opunake. took the service. The bride was • given away by her uncle, Air. J. Sinclair, Opunake. Her wedding frock was made with a cream moire ring velvet bodice with dong sleeves, and georgette skirt drooping' at the hem. Over this fell her cream silk embroidered veil and she carried a .Shower bouquet of cyclamens, chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern. She was attended by three bridesmaids, Miss Agnes McLean, Opunake, sister of the bride, was’ chief bridesmaid, wearing a dainty frock of fondant pink moire ring velvet with long sleeves and georgette skirt, with felt hat to tone and a pretty bouquet. Miss Winifred Catherwood, Titrakina, was similarly attired, in tones of hyacinth blue, and .Miss Mabel McLean, Nelson, cousin of the bride, wore gold moire ring velvet with skirt of niariette, and felt hat and bouquet to tone. The best man was Mr. L. 11. Briggs, Hastings, and the groomsmen were Mr. J. R. Dagger, Wellington, and Mr. R. Wilmott, Auckland. Later about 100 guests were entertained at the Opunake Town Hall. The bride's mother wore a chic frock of figured black satin with hat to tone and a black coney seal coat. The bridegroom’s mother wore a smart frock of black moire velvet and hat to match K . with a black coney seal coat. The bride and groom left by car for a honeymoon lour of Auckland and Tongariro National Park. The bride’s travelling

Miss Maud Mabson, until recently infant mistress at the Stratford school, was married at the Stratford Manse on Thursday to Mr. Victor Chatterton,, second son of Mrs. and the late Mr. W. Chatterton. Mr. and Mrs. Chatterton have gone by motor to Rotorua and other towns in the Auckland district. J OX ES—WHIT TING TON. The wedding of Gladys E. Whittington, youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Whittington, Stratford, to William John, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Evan Jones, Toko; was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church,' Stratford,’ on Wednesday, May .28. Miys ■B, Masters? played’the wedding’musif. '■ - The bride, who entered the church’ with her uncle; Mi'.’ W. Hawke, was charmingly attired in a pink celanese silk frock with uneven hemline and finished with a diamante buckle at the waist. A veil of pink tulle beautifully embroidered and a coronet of gold tissue finished with orange blossom and silver leaves (lent by Mrs. Mayhead, Toko), gold slices, a, beautiful bouquet of pink chrysanthemums, and a double string of pearls .were charming adjuncts to an effective toilet.

Miss Ivy Fuleher, Stratford, bridesmaid, wore a sweet frock of green crepe, suede, green felt hat trimmed with silk' velvet, and diamante buckle. She carried a bouquet of yellow chrysanthemums. Mr. Henry Were, Toko, was best man.

The bride's elder sisters, Mesdames Trott and Maindonakl, received the guests at the residence of Mrs. Fulcher, where the breakfast was’ held. About 50 were present. Mr. and Mrs. Jones left by car for Wellington and Hawke’s Bay districts. The bride travelled in a royal blue frock and hat relieved with silver, fawn fur trimmed coat, and shoes. ;
