LORRY-DRIVER FATALLY HURT
MACHINE RUNS AWAY BACKWARD
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Losing control of his motor-lorry, loaded with sand, when it stalled in Todman Street, Brooklyn, this morning, the driver, Arthur B. Shelbourne, residing at 18 Campbell Street, Karori, received severe head injuries and concussion, from which he subsequently died in the public hospital. When the motor stalled while proceeding up Todman Street the brakes would not hold, and it began to run down the hill backwards. The driver attempted to steer the lorry into a side street, but in doing so it struck the curb and overturned. He was pinned in the cab and the woodwork had to be cut away before he could be extricated. He was conveyed to the hospital by the ambulance, and died at 6 p.m.
