SOUP KITCHEN OPEN
UNEMPLOYED REST HOUSE IDEA. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. The Napier branch of tho Labour Party lias requested the unemployment committee to make representations to the hospital board to provide a rest house for men compelled to sleep out because of their inability to find employment. It is understood the board will next week consider a proposal to utilise an empty house for the purpose, and the provision of food will also be suggested in the same connec-
tion. To-day the Salvation Army opened a soup kitchen, of which 30 availed themselves. Members of the unemployment committee deplore as degrading the opening of the soup kitchen, considering the question of charitable aid should be handled by the hospital board, and it is hoped the proposal being considered will make its continuance unnecessary.
