CORRESPONDENCE

■ NOXIOUS WEEDS. (To the Editor.) ..., Sir,—We have heard a good deal lately about clearing our lands of noxious weeds. Local bodies are continually discussing the matter, also the Farmers’ Union, but its all talk and nothing done. In your paper to-day I see where we have 4000 unemployed in New Zealand. Might I suggest through these columns that the Government place a sum of money on the estimates and place the unemployed clearing our valuable' lands. I suggest also that two-thirds be charged to the State and onethird to the owners. Every acre cleared would mean more production, and our unemployed would he practically nil. - I am sure this idea would be much better than wasting money cutting off corners and straightening roads for motorists to obtain more speed. Every county could be cut up into areas under proper supervision, and start on our good dairying land first. Probably some abler pen than mine will take up this suggestion and let us see if something could be done. —I am, etc., 1 ‘INTERESTED.” June 5, 1930.
