REDUCTIONS IN THE ARMY
ECONOMICS IN AUSTRALIA.

Melbourne, May 10 Drastic reductions in the units of the Australian. Army are announced by the Adjutant-General, Major-General Dodds. The whole of the 15 infantry brigades will be raised in future on the basis of three battalions to a brigade instead of four. -Nine battalions’ will'cease to be maintained and the two Australian Light Horse Regiments will be abandoned.
These reductions are expected to contribute £25,000 to the cut of £500,000 which is to be made in the Defence estimates for the next financial year.
