MEETING OF SOCIAL CLUB. A meeting of .the Puniho Social Club was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Cooke on Wednesday, when the organiser, Mr. M. Payne, presented, the - balance-sheet for the recent ball. Mr. Payne stated the ball had been a success, and although expenses had been exceptionally heavy the profits amounted to nearly- £BO, a record for the club. Stressing thevaluable aid given by the - ladies,- the organiser stated that' although he had asked- them to cater for 800, there were over 1200 fgr supper.-- .. . .' The committee passed a special vote of thanks to Mrs, 8. S. Wells/ who made the bouquets for the guests of the evening. ’ . ■■■.. Y-"?* It was decided to commence - the painting of the church immediately, Mr. ■ W...Willi's, Okato, being given the', work ffinder the supervision of the chairman, '•Mr. .E. B. Cooke. . z / The organiser stated, that he had instructed J. B. Mac Ewan and Co. to pror ceed with the installation of . the .. electric lights in the church. It had. been decided to instal nine lights. ■ .. / ’ . Mr. Cooke reported having interviewed ‘the Warea represehtat.ves of the church committee i n connection'-with, the lighting, and they had expressed approval of ■ the scheme and had agreed to find half the cost. ■ . ■ ’ Further matters in connection with the church • improvements -were left iu abeyance, the chairman being left to call a meeting when the present proposals had been carried out and' paid for. - . ' it The disposal to dance committees of the special electrical gear acquired by the club was left in the hands of the organiser. - -
GENERAL AND PERSONAL.
The. annual- meeting of the T.umahuCarrington Hall Society was held at Tuniahu last Saturday. George. Goodwin presided Over a good attendance of members: The balance-sheet showed a satisfactory credit balance for the season. The’ meeting elected officers for the year and a social committee to conduct balls in the coming season. ■ ■ , The recent addition of a schoolroom at Puniho has filled a long-felt want and is greatly appreciated by the teachers. • ■. Many Puniko people have left for Britain recently, the latest t0...g0 being Messrs., Ridge, Whitly and Whittle, who have left for a six months’ tour.’
