With Mount Egmont and - its range* gloriously blue and inviting in appearance, a- party led by Mr. Hal Larsen and comprising 61 members of th® Taranaki Alpine Club, left New. Plyy mouth yesterday morning and - proceed-, ed to the head of Mangorei Road.jTh® party then struck into the ranges with the top of the Pouakais as its objective,. For about two miles an old tramJina was followed and then the bush proper was entered. At 12.20 a clearing was reached and lunch taken, the ; party, moving on again after an' hour’s rest. The top of the- ranges was. reached at about 2 o’clock. '•••■ •
•. Though inclined to be slightly hazy the view was good, Ngaruhoe, Tongariro and Ruapehu being clearly visible with the major portion of Taranaki clearly distinguishable. This outlook was enjoyed for some time before the descent was begun. Afternoon tea was made in the clearing where the party had lunched and the same path as used or the journey up was taken, the town being reached about 545.
