MEETING OF FIRE BRIGADE,. The inonthly meeting of the Kaponga firo- brigade was held on Tuesday evening, when Superintendent A. Melville presided over an attendance of 10 members. The secretary of the United Firo Brigades’ Association asked the brigade to confer with the teachers of State schools in reference to instructing the children in fire drill. A new member, Mr. Gordon Davies, was nominated to fill the ranks of tlie brigade and he will be ballotted for at next monthly meeting. The question of painting the fire station was raised. The superintendent stated the town board had decided to supply the paint if members undertook to do the work. This had not been done and they were missing the good weather, An effort will be made to complete the work before the end of May. Fireman Brewer was appointed as the brigade’s delegate bn a deputation to wait on the town board to ask it to carry out necessary repairs to the floor in the town hall, which is considered not in a condition to induce any of the committees to hold any big dances during the winter

PERSONAL ITEMS.

. Mr. H. McLaughlin, Herbertville, is on a short visit to friends in Kaponga. The Rev. and Mrs. P. J. Cossum left on Monday morning for a fortnight’s holiday at Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. H. Gardner, Riverlea, are on a holiday visit to the Waikato and Rotorua districts.

Constable J O’Donoghue and Master Pat O’Donoghue went to Te Aroha to attend the funeral of Mr. O’Donoghue’s father.

Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Fallows - and family left on Thursday on a three weeks’ holiday motor trip in the Wellington •and Napier districts. ‘ ; Mr. and Mrs. J> Guy and Miss Ella Guy left on Wednesday for an extended holiday motoring in the Wellington and Wairarapa districts, ■ During the absence of Mr. F. W. Fallows, manager of the Kaponga branch of the Bank of New Zealand, Mr. E. Wanklyn, Inglewood, is relieving. Mrs. C. Little, Dunedin, who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. A. Melville, returns home on Friday.
