Dunedin, May 7. Prices for fat cattle si'owed a decline at Burnside stock sale to-day, due to some extent to the large yarding and the absence of country buyers. There was another large yarding of sheep which met a fairly brisk market. Prices for. ewes showed an advance of about 3s i a head, due to the presence of a buyer from Christchurch. Lambs sold at prices equal to last week. Exporters bid keenly for all lambs suitable for the export trade. Prices for pigs were a little firmer, and several good lines of store cattle met with keen competition. Four trucks of extra prime wethers and one truck of extra heavy ewes were included in the sheep yarding of 2500 head. The balance of the entry consisted of plain wethers and light ewes. Best heavy ewes sold to 245; medium weights from 18s to 21s; extra heavy wethers sold to 3Gs; heavy, 31s 9d; medium, 28s 3d; and light, 20s. Prices for extra heavy wethers were equivalent to 4Jd per lb.; prime light wethers, sd; and extra heavy ewes, 3Jd. Very few prime lambs were forward. Several pens of extra heavy animals sold to 27s Gd, but the bulk were sold at prices ranging from 18s to 20s. Values realised for prime lambsfiWfd Equivalent to 7d. and 7Jd per lb. i - There were several pens of extra prime animals in an entry of 208 fat

cattle. The balance Of the yarding comprised plain sorts, including steers. Prime bullocks sold to £2O, and a line from the Taieri realised £lB 10s; medium weight cattle sold from £l4 to £l7; prime heifers, £10; light, £l2; and light cows, £l2. The prices obtained for prime bullocks were equivalent to 42s per 1001 b., for medium weight cattle 40s, and prime heifers 35s per 1001 b. The store cattle entry included about 100 head of good steers. These met with keen competition and the highest price obtained was £l3 10s. The whole line averaged £lO 15s per head. The balance of the yarding consisted of old. cows and several pens of lightweight steers, and all these sold at prices on a par with those of the previous sale. Steers' sold to £B, and cows £6 to . £9 a head.

The pig entry was smaller than usual, consisting of 71 fits and 61 stores. There vias a fairly keen demand and baconers and porkers were a shade dearer. Prime baconers sold on a basis of about 8d and prime porkers about 9Jd per lb. '. JOHNSONVILLE SALE. At the Johnsonville sale on Wednesday an average yarding of cattle and a large yarding of sheep was offered by Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and, Williams, Ltd. The cattle were of mixed including several lota of particularly prime heavy weights. Prices were on a par with last week's rates. The sheep were of good quality, and with the exception of a few pens of ewes, a clearance was made at late rates. The demand for lambs was slack and several pens were passed. Sales were made as follow: Prime heavyweight bullocks, £l6 2s 6d, £l6, £l5 15s, £l5; bullocks, £l4 12s 6d, £l4 10s, £l4 2s Gd, £l4, £l3 15s; bullocks, light, £l2, £ll 15s, £ll, £lO ss; heifers, £8 12s Gd; cows, £9, £8 12s Gd, £8 ss, £7 Iss, £5 7.5 6d, £5; vealers, £4 10s. £3 13s, £3 4s, £3 Is, £3;* wethers, heavy, 28s 3d, 28s, 27s Gd, 26s 6d; wethers, 25s 3d, 255, 24s Gd; ewes, 225, 21s 6d, 19s, 18s Idlambs, heavy, 25s 9d, 23s 9d; lambs, 18s, 17s 4d, 15s, 14s Gd, 13s.
