DUNEDIN IN DARKNESS
STREET LIGHTS CUT OFF. SERIOUS WATER SHORTAGE. Dunedin, May 6. The water shortage in Otago has. become so serioir. that the generating station at Waipori is in danger of being held up by the low level of the lake. Last night all street lights in Dunedin were cut off ; n an attempt to conservepower and save water, and the city will remain, in darkness unl'd heavy rains fall and give a fresh supply of energy. Last night was clear and the moon gave a certain amount of light, but if an overcast night occurs this week or should the restrictions still be in force after the moon has waned the lights may be switched on again.
