WHANGAMOMONA SCHOOL LIVELY HOUSEHOLDER’S MEETING. OBJECTION TO LABOUR BY PUPILS ' •’// ■: Twenty-six householders attended the annual meeting for the school committee election at the Whangamo’mona school on Monday. The chairman, Mr. R. J. Whiting, said it was unusual, though gratifying, to see such a good attend* ance. ‘ -• • v--. • The chairman was asked whether the committee was empowered to expend, the cleaning grant in providing a Christmas tree for the children and paying picnic excursion fares. She strongly objected to her" children having to perforin such duties, and stated., that from inquiries made at the Education Board office the teacher could not compel scholars to do the work. HOUSEHOLDERS’ MEETING,' There was a good attendance of residents at the . householders’ meeting of the Oaonui school district and .a strong committee was elected. ' ’ Mr. L. At the annual meeting of Auroa house* holders on Monday evening there was a large attendance and the following were elected a >mmi £ tee. ,-Messrs. Kilpatrick (chairman), Buxton (secretary), Caldwell, Davison and Mrs. Benton. Messrs. Miller and Kilpatrick thanked the retiring committee for its good work and co-operation, and the teaching staff for the excellent results achieved. A wonderful improvement is seen in the appearance of tho school grounds, buildings and sui-oundings. Mrs. Evans, head teacher, in her annual report, summarised the work of th®' year. Considerable interest had been, taken in the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs’, eh® said, while a strong junior Red Cross Society had been formed. Mrs. Evans exhorted parents to send their children to school as regularly as possible to re* j tain tho services of tho three teachers, J as schools were staffed on their attend*- 1 ance and not on the roll number. Swim* ining classes had been formed with the’ girls under the supervision of the assistant teachers and the .boy charge of'Mr. Sandford.
