NEW ZEALAND GOODS

SUPPORT OF CHEMISTS. Goods made in the Dominion are favoured by the Chemists’’Defence Association. of New Zealand, which has sent a letter to the .Manufacturers’ Association indicating its decision to support the campaign for New Zealand manufactures. At the recent conference of the Chemists’ Defence Association the following resolution was carried unanimously:— “That chemists give special attention to goods produced in New Zealand, in support of the local industries campaign, and that from time, to time special displays of locally-produced goods bb'made. Also that it be a recommendation to manufacturers’ associations that a New Zealand day or a New Zealand week be established! .on/similar lines to Australia Day.” ... In discussion.several speakers referred:, to the success that had followed .their efforts to push sevefal chemists! lines of. New Zealand manufacture, and it was agreed that chemists. throughout the Dominion., should increase their attention to these lines, losing no opportunity of advancing. New Zealand-pro-duced goods, which are found to sell just as. readily as the imported article, .. Arising from this discussion came the New Zealand day proposal, but members : felt • that this was a matter • that should extend to all traders, and was therefore beyond their powers. They hoped that the proposal would be carried out on comprehensive lines, and the federation could rely on full sup■poit from chemists so far as their lines are concerned.

Mr. F. Cainpbell, president .of the New Zealand' Manufacturers’ Federation, said that great gratification had bOen expressed by the federation on receiving such splendid support from the Chemists’ Defoiic'e Association, and. it was hoped that other associations would see" their .way to give similar support to the movement. It was recognised that only by the co-operation and assistance of retailers in stocking, and thus giving the public an opportunity of. purchasing New Zealand-made goods, could it be proved whether they desired to encourage local industries.
