LEVEL CROSSING SMASH
WOMAN HAS FOOT AMPUTATED. By Telograph.—Press Association. Levin, May 7. In a collision between a car and a train at Ohau last evening Mrs. J. Johnston, of Ellice Street, Wellington, had her foot badly injured and amputation was necessary. The car was driven by her husband who, at the diagonal crossing, mistook the lights of the incoming train for those of a car, having not heard the whistle. The car ran on to the cattle stop and the occupants were getting out when Mrs. Johnston was struck by some part of the engine. The car was thrown oft the cattle stop, but not badly damaged.
