AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION

IMPROVEMENTS AT KORU PA. REVISION OF RULES NECESSARY. The general committee of the Taranaki Automobile Association met in New Plymouth last night, Mr, F. H. Blundell presiding. Improvements at the Koru pa and revision, of the association’s rules were discussed. The New Plymouth Tourist and Expansion League advised that Messrs Amoore, Guild and Day had been appointed to discuss the proposed improvements at the Koru pa. Mr. Amoore i reported the league was prepared to assist so far as its finances permitted. Mr. W. -D. Armit, Commissioner, of Crown Lands, wrote that after inspecting the pa he was taking action to have. £5 authorised for clearing the tracks and improving the access to various parts of the reserve. It was desirous to preserve the glacis work as far as possible. The erection of a public notice board appeared necessary, drawing the attention of the public to the necessity for the preservation of the terraces and requesting them to refrain from destroying or displacing the stonework. Mr, Day reported that, in company with Mr. R. W. Davis, he- had been over the pa and they had estimated the cost of the work to be about £3O. Members of the Association used the pa for picnics and the Tourist League had the interest of the place at heart. Several members expressed the opinion it was’ obvious that many visitors could not find the pa because of the bad tracks. The erection of signposts, was only a secondary consideration and the main idea was to clear the paths, which would practically solve the problem -of finding the place. The chairman suggested the history of the pa should be incorporated in tho erection of the signs. Mr. Pentecost considered the association and the league should do more than erect posts indicating the way to such an historic spot. The scenic park board could do nothing until it received financial assistance. He proposed that £lO should be voted towards the cost. Mr. Day thought the Taranaki County Council could help by putting the road to the pa in order. Mr. Amoore: If we do the work at the pa first there is more likelihood of the council’s receiving this request with sympathy. A point was raised regarding the rights of honorary members on the committee. The rules disallowed honorary members a-vote on the committee, and as these men were appointed in order that their assistance might be available, it was hardly fair that they could not vote. Now that such a point was raised it was imperative that the rules be revised making provision for certain honorary members of the committee to bo entitled to vote. A committee of three was appointed to revise the rules. A special general meeting is to be called to authorise the revision. " The following new members were elected: —Mrs. K. Gilhooly, Mrs. W. J. Grinlinton, Messrs W. H. Pollard, C. H. Pollard and J. W. Priest (Pungarehu), Mr. C. S. Wood (Dunedin), Messrs C. R. Sarten, A. Cole, F. C. Blyde, D. Griffiths, A. 0. Whitehead, A. C. Beaven and J.
