DISTRICT SCHOOL MEETLNG’S. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Air. A. E. Collins presided at the Te Kiri householders’ meeting and in deprecating the unsatisfactory attendance expressed the wish that parents would show a more lively interest in their children’s welfare. A review of the past year’s work showed a successful and completed programme. The • meagreness of the capitation allowance for the upkeep of the school was stressed by the meeting. A fair attendance at Waiteika was presided over by Mr. W. Hodges. It was decided to forward the two following remits to the South Taranaki branch of the School Committees’ Association: — “That the cost of school’text books is prohibitive and that the department be urged to rectify this matter. “That a protest be registered in regard to the regulations which allow no assistant in a sole charge school with an average attendance of 30 and over, and that it imposes undue hardship on both pupils and teacher.” Aliss E. Cox, sewing mistress, and Mr. .E. G. Smith, the teacher, were both complimented on the way in which (hey had carried out their duties.
