SEALED HANDICAP RUN HELD.
E. G.-SMITH GAINS FASTEST. TIME.
A.successful cross-country run of three miles .was held at Waiteika last weekend by the Opuhake Harrier Club and good performances were recorded. The finishing order was: E. G. Smith, 16min 33scc; V. Stewart, IGmin 45sec; F. Barraclough, IGmin olsec; A. Pritchard, ITipin 25 sec. J. Fea ver came next, followed closely by R. Coad, From the start Stewart led the field, and set a smart pace. Barraclough hung, on closely in company with E. G. Smith, who was running easily and with confidence. A. Pritchard was in close attendance throughout the journey. ./The- dozen runners were strung out at long Intervals. The younger members found the pace too hot. The same order was maintained until about 500 yards from home, when Smith gradually drew away from Stewart and -gained fastest time. • The sealed handicap resulted: F. Barraclough 1, A. Pritchard 2, E. G. -Smith 3. The first and third trophies were donated by, Mr. V. Stewart. . The sec-ond-trophy was donated by. Mr. E. G. Smith. Messrs G. Raven and B. Hobbs were timekeepers. . Messrs Pritchard and Stewart placed their cars at the disposal of the runpers to convey them 'from.
