IS CHANGE DESIRABLE? WELLINGTON OPINIONS, The suggestion . made by the Attor-ney-General (the Hon. .Sir Thomas gidey) that the school year should be altered in order that the long vacation should take place in February was considered sympathetically at & number of householders’ meetings in the .Wellington ■ district. . Opinions .. were divided aa to the advisability of making .the change. "‘There is mighty little work done in February, and I think the taking of the school holidays in that month would b» very desirable if it could be arranged,” said the -headmaster (Mr. Herd) when Sir Thomas Sidey’s proposal was under discussion at Te Aro. On the motion of Mr. P. Fraser, M.P., it was decided to defer the matter for further consideration and investigation.

A motion supporting the suggested system to the summer school vacation to February-March was lost by one vote at the Brooklyn householders’ meeting, 22 voting for and 23 against it. Among the views expressed against the proposal was one that the awards of some trades provided that employees should take holidays at Christmas time, and another that the meeting should not express a favourable opinion of the resolution just because this year the weather had been good in the montlis mentioned. ■ At Karori a motion was carried suggesting that a holiday of two weeks should be taken at Christmas and that the remaining four weeks should be taken in the month of February. Ha taitai approved of a suggestion that during the hot summer months school should commence at 8 a.m. and end at noon, leaving the afternoon free.

-Meetings at- the Terrace, Clyde Quay, Wadestown, Miramar South., Eastern Hutt, Trentham, Wilford and Kaiwarra schools supported Sir Tho-. man Sidey’s proposal, and at Taita it was rejected. ■ ’
