AUSTRALIA’S PROSPECTS
CRICKET TEST OUTLOOK YOUNG BOWLERS DISAPPOINTING. WARWICK ARMSTRONG’S IDEAS. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Mr. Warwick Armstrong’s tall figure was easily distinguishable on the Aorangi when she arrived this morning from Sydney. It is no cricket tour which has brought the famous Australian cricketer to Auckland, but a business visit. Mr. Armstrong, of all Australians, is privileged to speak on the possibility of success for the Australian cricket team now touring in England,, for he accompanied Australian sides in their search for “The Ashes” no fewer than four times. In an interview this morning Mr. Armstrong gave reasons for his opinion that Australia would probably have extremely difficult obstacles in the test games with England. Although' he granted that the tour was yet early, and more indications of form were, to come, he sail it was from Australia’s point of view to be regretted that some of the younger bowlers had not been more successful against English countybatsmen. Grimmett, the experienced “croogly” bowler, had been responsible for most of Australia’s bowling success. “The young bowlers do not seem to have reached°effeetive form at all,” Mr. Armstrong said. “This means that a good deal” of reliance will be placed on Grimmett in test games, and it is to be assumed "that he will have a much harder task in bowling against England’s best batsmen. Australia will be a little weak for the big games.' We must , play four or five bowlers, who, I judge, will not be" expected’ to make wery m an y runs. This;leaves too l much responsibility: on Australia’s best batsmen. Don Bradman certainly fulfilled expectations when he scored a ■ double century.”
