“KILL THE BOSSES’ ARMY”
STREET FIGHT AT BRISBANE UNEMPLOYED CLASH WITH POLICE. SEVERAL RIOTERS ARRESTED. By Telegraph—Press Aaan.— -CopyrightRec. 9.45 p.m. Brisbane, May fl. A pitched battle in the streets of Brisbane to-day ended in the arrest of several of the unemployed. During the clashes the police made many baton charges while boots and fists were used by th© rioters. The occasion was a Labour Day procession of unemployed. They formed themselves into a separate eamp and became disorderly. They carried offensive banners and shouted, “Kill the bosses’ army.”. Their leaders also delivered fiery., addresses in the vicinity of the Trades Hall.
The police tried to disperse them and a melee ensued. Reinforcements of police arrived and arrested a number amid hooting and jeering but nobody was seriously hurt.
