STRATFORD SCHOOL RECORD

IMPROVEMENTS TO GROUNDS. MR. HOSKIN AjGAIN CHAIRMAN. The Stratford primary school could boast a record for the. past year that was - outstanding among Taranaki schools, said Mr. A. Fergusson, at the annual meeting of householders last night. Of the pupils who sat for proficiency at last annual examination 95 per cent, passed despite the fact that the school had been handicapped by frequent changes in the staff. . There was a good attendance ’at the meeting. The Mayor. (Mr. P. Thomson) presided, the chairman of the committee (Mr. W. Hoskin) being unavoidably absent. The. annual report stated that the pa-st year had been a successful one for the school, the quality of the work and the results of the whole school generally having been well maintained. During the year further iinproveinents had been made to. the grounds between the main school, and the remodelled infant school. Tlie ground had been levelled, filled and tarred, a job that should be permanent. The thanks of the. : com - . mittee were due to the Stratford Borough Council, which had . arranged for the Use of plant, men and materials. Another work of importance in progress was the heating of the school. This work, after exhaustive tests; would be put in hand during the coming school vacation, and would be .complete on the opening of the school-for the.new term; . The dental clinic had. done much use.ful work during the year, and the den•tal nurse (Miss- M. Whiteside), was to be congratulated on the high standard of the work. The financing of the clinic ■still caused the committee soifie anxiety, the receipts of donations for attendances to children ~ being' very . meagre;’ It ’ waa hoped . parents having children * treated’ wduld realise their obligations during this, coming year. . < . • The balance-sheet showed that the general account was £B5 3s. overdrawn, while the'special” account was £64 13s. 2d. in credit. The secretary explained that the general account was ah account of general receipts and expenditure in connection with the upkeep of the school. The special account concerned special efforts to raise money for specific' purposes. ? The 'report and : balance-sheet were. adopted. ■ . / ’. • - ■ ’■ ■■ The ’committee elected was: Messrs. W.
