PURCHASE OF MOTOR-CARS
MINISTER DENIES RUMOUR.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night.
Speaking in the Parnell by-election campaign to-night, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, Minister of Labour, said a rumour was current in Auckland that Whippet motor-care to a total value of £60,000 had been purchased by the Government from a firm with which the name of Sir Joseph Ward was associated. The facts were that 19 Whippet cars had been bought for general Government departments, five for the Post and Telegraph Department, and one for the Public Works Department, the total constituting a lower percentage of the whole than that of every other type of ear purchased.
