In the House of Commons Air. Wayland moved to reduce, the new beer duty from 3s. to 2s. Gd. per barrel. He said that while every other war tax had been reduced the beer tax had been doubled. The amendment was defeated by 243 votes to 112.

-Mr.. Wayland then moved that a rebate of two shillings -per barrel be granted for beer brewed purely from local malt and hops. This was also defeated by 275 votes to 145.
