Rcc. 8 p.m. Sydney, May I« Officials of the Peninsular and Oriental Shipping Company disclaim responsibility for the mail bag thefts from the steamers Mooltan and Chitral. The postal authorities are now of opinion that the thefts occurred after the mails were unloaded at Perth.
An earlier message stated that bags of mail matter from Glasgow and Manchester received by the liner Mooltan, now in Sydney, .were pillaged in transit. The bags contained a number of r gistered articles, which are missing. It was further reported from Perth that was a registered mailbag had been stolen from the liner Chitral, now en route to Sydneyj and the lists of consignees were also missing.
