A meeting of delegates of southern division junior football players was held at; Hawera last night, Mr. J. Goodwin,

president of the Tarapaki Rugby Union, presiding. That the southern division junior competition be conducted on the -lines .of the Senior. ..competition, all - teams playing in one division; waS' the text of. a/motion passed. ' - Mr. J. >E. Campbell stated that the Hawera junior players were dissatisfied with'the manlier in which the competition was conducted last year. They had had too few matches and wanted to play more teams. Through having to wait while other competitions were concluded they had lost interest in their own matches. From the point of view of southern football a change was most desirable.

The motion was opposed by Mr. J. S. Hickey (Opunake), who said last year’s method of conducting the ' competition made junior football practically impossible for his club on account of the great deal of travelling involved and the financial strain. It was monotonous to play the same teams right through the competition. He moved that the junior competition be conducted in two competitions as previously. Mr. A. J. Christie (Waimate) seconded the amendment.

Mr. W. Johnston (Okaiawa) said a change would make very little difference to his club, which would like to give it a trial.

That the two-division scheme was the best was the opinion of Mr. J. Paterson (Waimate). An objection was raised two years ago on the grounds of expense, he said. Although a new arrangement would curtail expense the competition last year worked very well.

The amendment was defeated and the motion was carried.

The age limit for thirds was fixed at 19 aiid of fourths at 17. An amendment to increase the age limit of the thirds to 20 was lost;
