SHARP RISE FOR FAT SHEEP.

Christchurch, Last Night. With th© exception of fat sheep there were heavier entries in. all sections of the Addington market to-day than have been the case for some weeks. Fat sheep, which were in short supply, recorded a sharp rise of 2s and even more on last week’s values. There was also a slight firming in., prime beef values of about 2s per 1001 b. The other major sections recorded little change. There was a larger yarding of store sheep, including an entry of 2000 Lambs. Values were a Tittle firmer but the adult sheep, which were in the main indifferent quality, sold draggingly and sales were hard to make. The Chatham Islands were represented by what will probably be their last draft this season. Values were: Medium ewe lambs, 14s to 15s; forward m.s. lambs, Ils 6d to 13s 8d; good wether lambs, Ils to 12s 3d; ordinary wether lambs, 8s to 10s 9d; inferior wether lambs, to 7s; good twotooth Romney ewes, to 23s 8d; good 4, 6 and 8-tooth Romney ewes to 19s sd; good s.m. Romney ewes to 15s 6d; f.m. Romney ewes to 7s 10d; good 2-tooth halfbred ewes, 21s to 23s 8d; ordinary to medium 2-tooth halfbred ewes, 13s 3d to 18s 9d; extra good 6 and 8-tooth half bred ewes to 225; good 6 and 8tooth, 15s 6d to 17s; ordinary 6 and 8tooth halfbred ewes to 14s; s.m. halfbred ewes tb 9s 3d; aged and inferior half bred ewes, 3s lOd to 6s sd; good 6 and 8-tooth crossbred ewes to 12s 8d; ordinary 6 and 8-tooth crossbred ewes to 13s fid; good 2-tooth halfbred wethers to 18s; .good. 4, 6 and 8-tooth halfbred wethers, 12s 3d to 15s; aged and backward halfbred wethers, to 5s 6d. FAT LAMBS SATISFACTORY.' 1 In the fat lambs section there was an entry of 3647 head and the sale was a satisfactory one. Butchers’ sorts were a little easier, but the export buyers were paying full schedule rates, 6Jd to 71d per lb. Values were: Extra prime lambs to 26s 10d; prime lambs, 22s Gd to 245; medium lambs, 20s to 225; light larfibs, 15s to 19s Gd. A very small entry of about 2200 fat sheep was yarded and as a result of the short supply values rose by 2s a head for prime sorts of both classes, and even more. Values were; Show wethers to 36s Id; extra prime wethers to 33s 9d; prime wethers, 29s to 31s 6d; medium wethers, 25s Gd to 28s: light wethers, 19s to 24s Gd;' show ewes to 28s Id; extra prime ewes to 275; prime ewes, 21s to 245; medium ewes, 17s to 20s; light and aged. 12s to 10s. Of . fat cattle there was a heavy entry of 585 head, including consignments from the Chatham Islands and several big lines of station steers. The quality of the yarding zas very mixed. Prime beef .sold, at values a little above those Af lastiweek, but there .was little change in the prices for plain beef, for which there .was an indifferent market. Best medium, weight beef made from 40s to 435, and in odd eases, a little over that figure; medium quality from 34s to 36s 6d; heavy steer from 36s to 395; good cow 28s to 30s; secondary 24s to 275, down to £2s. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers £l9 10s to £2O 17s 6d; prime heavy steers £l6 15s to £l9; prime medium.-weight steers, £l3 to £l6 ss; ordinary quality steers, £lO 10s to £l2 10s; light steers, £7 10s to £10;. extra prime , heifers, £l3. 10s to £l5: 7a.fid; prime heifers, £lO 10s to . £.13; ordinary heifers, £8 to £10; light heifers, £6. 5s to £7 15s; extra prime'cows to £15.17a Gd; prime. cows, £9 10s to £11; ordinary cows, £7 10s to £9; light and. aged cows, £5 to VEALERS LACK FINISH. There, was a large entry of vcalers, but the bulk showed lack of finish. Good vealers sold at equal to recent rates, but there was no demand for other sorts, The top price was £7 18s fid. The entry of store cattle was a poor one and consisted chiefly of cows. Prices were much the same as they were last week. Good calves made from 30s to 50s; best cows up to £5 10s; yearling and 18-month steers up to £5 10s; and potting bulls to £B. In the dairy cattle section the entry numbered 69 head and the quality was average. There was demand for good cows close to profit, but a dragging sale for the remainder. Values were: Best second and third calvers to £l5 15s; others £4 15s to £l4; extra good heifers- to £l4 ss; good, £ll to £l3 10s; others, £7 to £lO 10s.

In the fat pigs section there was a heavy entry of porkers and the result was a decline in value by 7s to 10s a head. A. large entry of baconers sold at values a little above those of last week. Values were: Choppers, £3 to £7 3s. 6d; porkers, 42s to 51s; heavy porkers, 53s to £3 5s (average price per lb., 7£d to 8Jd) : ; light baconers, £3 7s 6d to £4; heavy baconers, £4 2s 6d to £4 14s Gd;- extra heavy baconers to £5 Is 6d (average price per lb.-, 6ld to 7id).

Of store pigs there was a medium entry, but sales were hard to make in most cases. Values were: Large stores, 28s to 325; others, 17s to 255; slips, 14s to 17s; weaners,.-. 7s to 12s.

SALE AT WESTFIELD.

BEEF VALUES STEADY,

At Westfield fat stock market today ox beef was offered in larger numbers than usual. The quality was firstclass. but the demand had not improved and last week’s • values again ruled. Extra heavy prime bullocks realised £l4 5s to £l4 10s; mediiim prime, £l2 12<3 Gd to £l3 ss; light prime, £lO 17s Gd to £ll 12s fid; small and unfinished, £7 12s 6d to £9 2s 6d. Cow and heifer beef came forward in well up to the usual numbers, and quality was up to the usual standard. Competition was steady and last week’s values were again recorded. Prime heavy heifers realised £lO to £11; prime young cows and heifers, £8 to £9 12s 6d; medium prime, £7 to £7 Iss; light £5 Iss to £6 10s; other cows, £5 to £5 7s fid.

Extra choice ox beef sold to 37s per 1001 b.; choice and prime, 34s to 365; secondary and plain, 32s to 335; prime young cow and heifer, 30s to 335; just killable, 23s to 295.

Sheep were yarded in the usual numbers, for which the demand was steady and values generally were quite firm. Extra heavy prime wethers brought 27s 9d to 28a 9d; heavy prime. 27s 3d to 27s 6d; medium, 25s to 2Gs 9d; light and unfinished, 22s 9d to 24s 3d; heavy prime ewes, 18s fid to 22s 3d; lighter, 16s 3d to I7s fid; other ewes, 12s to 15s 3d.

Lambs were offered in. about' the usual numbers, which sold ul dec demand, at

full late rates. Medium prime brought 17s to 19s 6d; light prime, 14a to 15s. Calves, of which there was a heavy yarding, sold at values on a par with last week. Two exceptionally well fattened heavy yealers were sold at £6 Is a head, and two heifers at £4 18s. Heavy vealers realised £4 5s to £4 15s; medium, £3 10s to £4; light, £2 2s to £3 3s; small, 18s to 355. Pigs. were yarded in smaller numbers and sold steadily at the rates ruling during the week.
