CHAMPIONS IN ACTION.
RECORD ENTRIES AT WAITUI.
That swinging the axe is by no means a forgotten art is strikingly illustrated by the record number of competitors (over 50) that has entered in the various events to be' decided at the Waitui sports. They comprise the picked axemen of Taranaki, King Country and other parts of the North Island. ■ With the carnivals that have already been decided the axemen are now at the top of their form and the public therefore should see some thrilling contests The principal events are the la-inch New Zealand championship and the 12inch North Island championship, which have drawn very large entries, and there is very keen rivalry for the honour of wearing the blue riband, as well as eecurin" the substantial prize money. For tlie sports to-morrow the committee has made complete arrangements. The sports will be held on the centrally situated property again placed at the club’s disposal by Mr. J. Buckley.
