While detectives were investigating the affairs of the Australian Federal Life and General Assurance Company, three officials of which were arrested during the week on charges of fraud believed to involve over £500,000, a great crowd of people gathered and made a hostile demonstration against some of the company officials who appeared outside the building. An ugly situation appeared imminent When the invest’ -ting police escort. •! one insurance man to his car in which he drove off amid angry shouts and jeers. Another official escaped by a rear entrance. A formidable pile of statements ilready has been tendered to the police by people who allege they lost heavily by investments or policies in the company.
