GREAT NORTHERN MEETING.
MAJOR NOMINATIONS TO-DAY. The attention oi Taranaki owners and trainers is drawn to the fact that nominations for the chief event at the Great Northern steeplechase meeting, held at Ellerslie on June 3, 5 and 7, will close with the secretary, Mr. WS. Spence, Auckland, at 5 o’clock today. On the opening day the Great Northern Hurdles, of 1750 sovs., two nines and a half, and the Cornwall Handicap, of 1000 sovs., one mile and a quarter, are contested. The Great Northern Steeplechase, of 2000 sovs., about three miles and three-quarters, is the prime event on June 5, while the big flat race is the King George Handicap, of 700 sovs., seven furlongs. The meeting concludes on Saturday, June .7, when the Winter Steeplechase, of 1000 sovs., about three miles, and the York Handicap, of 750 sovs., one mile, will be the chief events decided.
