CROSS EXAMINATION FLAWS
CHANGE OF SYSTEM SUGGESTED.
By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Auckland, April 24.
Addressing the law conference on nisi prius, Mr. C. H Weston (New Plymouth) said it was possible the present rigid system of eliciting evidence of witnesses by questions and answers would. be modified in the future. 5 In compensation and similar cases where expert witnesses were engaged, the system generally proved inadequate to arrive at what witnesses desired to convey.
It would be more satisfactory jf matters at issue could be informally dis* cussed at a kind of round table conference, presided over by the judge with counsel and all the expert witnesses present and entitled to question one another without restraint.
