TARANAKI TROTS TO-DAY

’ FIELDS AT NEW PLYMOUTH HAWERA FORM WILL BE A GUIDE. HAROLD LOGAN FORM HORSE TN CUP FINE RACE PROMISED IN FAREWELL (By “Moturoa.”) Good stakes attract good horses, big . crowds follow the classy horses, and that 5a why trotting in New Plymouth has proved popular in the past live years—the first live years of existence of ■ the ; Taranaki Trotting Club as a totalisator • club. Totalisator receipts have shown a steady increase over those five years until £15,027 was handled at the m.e.ct- . ing last year. T.he time is surety ripe for another day to be a .ocated to this r. eeti. - and this step, which is in keeping with the progress of the club, is ' warranted. Nicesized fields arc v arded for to-day’s sport and the public will have the form at Hawera last week-end to guide them in their speculations. In the past Hawera form has been good and there is ; no reason for a change in this course of events. As usual Messrs. C. E. Goosman (handicapper), A. Morse (starter) and E. V. Sutherland (judge) will fill their positions, and the wants of patrons will be attended to by Secretary D. le C. Morgan. The track is in splendid order and arrangements for the special parking of cars, to avoid congestion, are well in hand. The programme opens at 11.45 a.m. with the : ■ NOVICE HANDICAP. Of 105 sovs. One and a-half miles.

With most of this field on the limit mark, the draw for positions will have something to do with the running. Cliver Thorpe ran two fair races at Hawera and will do better. Manco has the best recent form by reason of his second to Modern Light at Hawke’s Bay, and has only to repeat that form to have nine seconds to come and go on. Teri Kingi went 3.32 2-ssec for this distance at Wanganui, and form indicates that he will be the one to extend Manco. WAITARA HANDICAP. Of 115 sovs. One mile and a-half. (Unhoppled trotters. 3.52 limit).

Race starts at 12.25 p.m. The limit markers arc a poor lot and the three-year-old Windchat may be the •pick of this division. All Special won an slow time at C’laudelands and Windchat, who was in that race, should hold, her safe. Joy Ride will need to go faster than he did at Wanganui. Laurier went 3min 38 4-ssee at Hawera and so is handicapped to trot with the limit horsts. Perhaps the totalisator may disclose the fact that Windchat is liked next to Laurier. URENUI HANDICAP.

i Race starts at 1.5 p.m. • If she repeats her form at Wanganui, : Lady Yvonne has more than five seconds the better of the deal and, as the Auckland mare is consistent, she will take some heading off. Lightfoot went slightly better than the mare at Wanganui and Richmond Lass made most of the running in the Kaponga Handicap at Hawera and has about six seconds the better of her time there. Bingen Spiers has been disappointing and so has Modern Light. Chrystal will be more forward than at Claudelands, and Richmond Lass and Lady Yvonne may find the hardest to beat will be Chrystal. ; The big race of the day is the ' TARANAKI TROTTING CLUB CUP. Of 300 sovs and a Cup valued at £25. Two miles (4.44 limit).

Warrenore Lt. Race starts at 1.45 p.m. Winning form is widely represented in this field and the public will have recent performances to go on. Harold Logan, •who comes into the race through the repominatiop clause, will interest the public in as much as last year’s winner, Great Delight, was also renominated. Harold Logan went 4.40 3-ssec at. Ha•wera after being slow to move, and he has only to go oil smartly to run record time for the race. Gold Treasure did sliglitly better .time at Hawcra, but Great Author'appeals more. The latter went 4.38 at Hawcra, and he finishes on veil. Arachne is down from Auckland, 1 ' his form has not been impressive. Gang Awa’ can move fast and if Nella Dillon could see the distance out at the 2min 13 l-ssec gait die went for a mile n.t Claudelands, the pace would be a “cracker.” El Direct is staying on better 1 should keep Riehore busy. In the event of Nella Dillon not being’able to see out the journey, the issue would appear to be between Gold Treasure, Great Author and Harold Logan and preference is given to Harold Logan. MOTUROA HANDICAP. Of 120 sovs. One mile. (2.24 limit).

Race smarts at 1.25 p.m. Bingen Crest is a smart two-year-old, but he has a lot to learn yet, and Short Story, who won at' Wanganui, would appear to hold those above him quite safe. The trotter Nelson Parrish may not be out of place among the pacers, but Highland Derby looks better. Lady Author won at Ashhurst and Nathaniel tnd Rita Thorpe are both well. If re-

served for this race, Gold Treasure would appear to be the pick of the bunch, and in his absence, Lady Author and Bingen Crest may be next fancied to .Short Story. , ; INGLEWOOD HANDICAP. • Of 140 sovs. Two miles.

Race starts at 3 p.m. Joy Ride stays on better than any of these and went about this time at Wanganui behind Brian Bingen, The latter is solid, but he is now back with Laurier, who has five seconds the better of the deal on his form at Hawera. Brian Bingen and Joy Ride will be well backed, but if he is not severely penalised a good proposition should be Laurier. OMATA HANDICAP. Of 120 sovs. One mile and a-half. (3.39 limit).

Race starts at 3.45 p.m. Earlier form will play a big part in d 'tiding- the favourites for this race. Manco looks the best of those on the limit, though Lady Yvonne goes solidly. Rita Thorpe will be better suited here than in the mile race, and her good display at Hawera was encouraging, Baron Derby and Modern Light cannot 7 be passed over, though the latter does not keep her feet too well. Manco and Lady Yvonne should be the pair to try Rita Thorpe. A big field is carded for the “recovery stakes” and betting will take a wide range in the . - . FAREWELL HANDICAP.

Race starts at 4.25 p.m. Cora Tacks, who races solidly, would appear to be the pick of those on the limit mark. Great Author stands a good chance on his recent form, though he does not find his feet very smartly. The Kingsclere-Trustworthy bracket will be popular, and then Warrenore and Native Hero both go fast. Archne goes well over this distance and Cornelian and the Richore-Hostess bracket will be backed. El Direct has two seconds, the better of his win at Hawera and must be given a great chance, while the smart Nella Diilon would be liked if reserved for this race. Ngahuia ran the mile in 2min 14 sec at Hawera and so has over two seconds the better of the deal here. Summed up, Great Author, El Direct, Nella Dillon, Cora Tacks and Ngahuia all promise,to make the race interesting, but the form horse is Ngahuia; FGRBURY PARE TROTS. ‘ THE’ HANDICAPS DECLARED: By Tckgraph.—Press Association.
