FALL FROM GRAFTON BRIDGE
DESTITUTE MAN’S DEATH.

James Farrell, aged between 65 and 70, scrambled over the parapet of Grafton bridge above the deepest place and fell into the gully. He was found in a dying state. He left a note in hie pocket"saying: “Good-bye; I’m a done man.” According to an eye-witness Farrell ran alonp °the pathway to the middle of the bridge. He then halted, dragged himself up on to the parapet and rolled over into space. The dead man lived at 35 Ponsonby Road. He was destitute, judging by his poor clothing and the fact that his boots were in tatters. A first-aid outfit and stretcher were immediately taken to the foot of the gully, but the man was dead.
