WOMEN ABET SEDITION
CONVICTION OF TWO SAMOANS.
MRS. NELSON AND SISTER WARNED
By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 5.' p.m. Apia, April 23. Mrs. Nelson was charged to-day with identifying herself with and expressing approval of a seditious organisation. Her nister, Mrs. Muench, faced two charges of aiding Samoan women to hold formal gatherings without the consent or inspection of the police. Judge Luxford, convicting the defendants, said he regarded the offences seriously. He discharged both women on condition they would not assist any organisation of which Samoans were members except such as approved by the Court judge or his commissioner or are not convicted of any offence subsequently and pay within 28 days £5 5s towards the cost of the prosecutions. They were to note that a breach of the conditions would be regarded as an offence rendering them liable to sentence. “Therefore your own conduct in the future will determine whether you will stay and -retain your liberty,” the judge concluded, "and whether you will be allowed to continue your residence in Samoa.”
