PENFRIENDS’ CORNER
Grace Warner, Wille Road, Bell Block, would like to write to a girl about 10 or 11.
Grace Hoskin, Saunders Road, Okato, wants a pen-friend of about 12 years old.
OUR SWEET-MAKING CORNER. SOFT CHOCOLATE CARAMELS. Melt one and a half tablespoonsful of j butter in a saucepan, add two good- | sized teacupsfnl of icing sugar, half a cupful of unsweetened cocoa, a quarter of a cupful of milk, and a pinch of salt. Stir gently, bring to the boil, and continue boiling til] a little of the mixture tried in cold water forms a soft ball. If it is too sticky, add more sugar and reboil the whole. Now take the saucepan off firn fire, and beat the mixture well till it is thick and creamy. Pour it on to a buttered plate and, when quite cold and set, cut' : it intd'caramels with a sharp knife. ’
