COMBINED SCHOOLS’ PICNIC,

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING.

The first annual combined schools picnic was held on the Urenui beach on Tuesday under ideal weather conditions. The schools participating were Urenui, Kaipikari, Mimi and Uruti. The secretary of the combined schools, picnic committee, Mr. Rex Bramald, assisted by an energetic committee, had an attractive programme drawn out, the officials all combining well in carrying out the various events. Entries were numerous and competition throughout extremely keen, in the relay race especially so, the Mimi representatives gaining the verdict from Kaipikari after a hars fought tussle. Mimi will hold the banner donated by Mrs. F. Duncan, Inglewood. Consolation • races- were held throughout the day, very few children returning homewards minus a trophy. The children were conveyed to the beach by buses and cars and were accompanied by a representative gathering of parents and friends. Ice cream, cordials, boiling water and milk were provided free, and sweets, nuts and apple scrambles ensured a good time for all. The officials were: Handicappers, Messrs, L. Bicheno, C. C. Short and J. Thompson; starter, Ma McGregor; judges, Messrs. Leggitt, W. Lawrence and R. Say well; scrambles, Messrs. T. Radcliffe and Fair brother; ice cream, Mr. J. Allen. The details are:— .
